You will find a big list at the biography of every play. We would
like to apologise to those festivals whose names do not appear in
this web though they have programmed us.
2009
Xarxa Teatre receives one of the greatest accolades a street theatre company can aspire to: an invitation to open the 55th Mérida Theatre Festival. The company prepares a new production, Proserpina, for the coliseum in Extremadura, a show that sets the poetry of Ovid in a modern context. The renowned contemporary artist, Juan Ripollés, participates in the project with designs for the masks used in the show. The performance ends with a standing ovation from an enraptured audience.
The Aurillac Theatre Festival also pays homage to Xarxa Teatre. Festival director Jean-Marie Songy commissions the company to create a show, in tandem with the French company Générik Vapeur, that will take over the town centre. The result is G-178, a macro performance about exodus and immigration in which some 60 actors take part. The French press describes it as “one of the legendary chapters in street theatre”.
Successful performance of the show La vache de la paix in the Alpine Au Bonheur des Mômes Festival, and a visit to Warsaw with Tombatossals.
2008
The company celebrates its 25th anniversary with the publication of the book Xarxa Teatre, 25 años sin fronteras (Xarxa Teatre, 25 years without borders). The book’s 300 pages and over 300 photographs, written by Remei Miralles and Josep Lluís Sirera, tell the story of the company from its beginnings, accompanied by a DVD and CD covering the subjects of the company’s productions.
The Fira Mediterrània d’Arrels Tradicionals in Manresa introduces the figure of guest artistic director for the first time, an honour that falls to the directors of Xarxa Teatre, Leandre Ll. Escamilla and Manuel V. Vilanova. In addition to presenting Les rates mortes, the directors are commissioned to programme a daily show related to the world of street fiesta. The initiative is enthusiastically welcomed by the public.
Xarxa Teatre triumphs in Vila-real with a large format multimedia show, Àgora, to open the exhibition Espais de llum for the Foundation La Luz de las Imágenes. Xarxa Teatre is also commissioned to perform at the opening gala of the VI National Special Olympic Games in Castellón.
Xarxa Teatre’s performances continue to triumph abroad. The International Theatre Festival in Sibiu (Romania) includes three of the company’s shows in its programme. For the first time, Xarxa Teatre presents Nit màgica in Morocco (Mawazine Festival in Rabat). In September, Xarxa’s Veles e vents is chosen to open the London 2012 Cultural Olympics in the county of Dorset (host for the Olympic Games sailing events).
2007
Xarxa Teatre makes a successful debut in the world of opera. Commissioned by Castelló Cultural, the play La filla del Rei Barbut is produced with music by Matilde Salvador and libretto by Manuel Segarra Ribes, and opens in Castellón’s Teatro Principal in December 2007. Under the musical direction of Josep Vicent, the opera receives excellent reviews and an historic full house for each of its three performances.
The company performs for the first time in Asia (Shanghai) with the show Déus o bèsties as part of the events to celebrate the Year of Spain in China.
The design of special events and shows continues to be a constant feature of Xarxa Teatre’s work. These include the opening of the Hotel Westin in Valencia and the Auditori de Les Nits de La Nucia, the University Beach Volleyball Championships in Valencia and celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Colla del Rei Barbut in Castellón.
At the same time, the company’s presence in Europe is relentless with performances in France, Italy, Belgium and England to name just a few.
2006
The Viladecans Street Theatre Festival pays tribute to Xarxa Teatre’s 25-year career in artistic street performance with an exhibition of large-format photographs of the company’s shows. The comic theatre fair Umore Azoka de Leioa presents its annual award to Xarxa Teatre and to the magazine Fiestacultura in recognition of their professional achievements.
The company premiers its touring version of Les rates mortes (The Dead Rats), inspired by the work of Belgian painter James Ensor, at the Viladecans Street Theatre Festival, with an enthusiastic reception from the public in attendance.
Official inauguration of the Año Santo Lebaniego (Holy Year in Liébana) in Potes, with a huge multimedia show, Tierra de júbilo (Land of jubilation), about the history of Cantabria and the Beatus of Liébana.
Official inauguration of the World University Taekwondo Championships in Valencia with De València al món. Una festa de l'esperit. (From Valencia to the world. A fiesta of the spirit)
Inauguration of the Festival Espirelia in Lorca with the production Noche de San Juan (Night of San Juan).

After the tremendous success of Tombatossals the
company presents a new version to go on tour.
Members of the company sailed around the Mediterranean sea in a
Rumanian battle ship visiting eleven countries of both sides of
the sea in an artistic peace project of the International Mediterranean
Theatre Institute called Odissea 2003.
The company creates the following big events: Quema de la
sardina (“Burning the sardine”) for a grand
finale of the fiestas of Murcia. Boato del capità
moro a daylight parade for the “filà Chanos”
from Alcoi. Llàgrimes and Desembarcament
moro for the city of Vilajoiosa.
Don Quijote sueña de nuevo (“Don Quixote dreams
again”) an indoor event for closing the International European
Handicapped People Year in Madrid.
2002
Creation and production of the new show Tombatossals
("The Hill Crusher"), based on the novel of the same name
by Josep Pascual i Tirado, for the 750th anniversary of the city
of Castellón.
The company is once again a resounding success with Déus
o bèsties ("Gods or Beasts") in its third-time
participation in the International Theatre Festival of Caracas.
The Cervantes Festival of Guanajato, Mexico includes an extensive
tour of Nit màgica ("Magic Night")
in its program.
Creation of two more new events: Torrelavega: cruce de caminos,
confluencia de culturas ("Torrelavega: Crossroads
of Cultures") and Elx: un llegat de cultures
("Elche: Legacy of Cultures").
2001
CD edition of the soundtrack to Déus o bèsties
("Gods or Beasts"). Creation and production of the show
La Torre de la Vega ("The Tower in the Meadow")
for the Cantabrian city of Torrelavega. First performance in Africa
at the International Festival of Carthage (Tunisia).
2000
Premiere performance of Déus o bèsties
("Gods or Beasts") for an audience of 25,000. The show
reflects on the characteristics of an ancient Iberian bull deity
and its continuing existence today.
1999
Co-production of El ball de les rates mortes ("The
Dance of the Dead Rats") by the Oostende Zee Festival (Belgium)
in honour of the fiftieth anniversary of the death of painter James
Ensor. The Belgian city of Gent commissions Xarxa Teatre for the
closing ceremonies following the commemorative celebrations on the
occasion of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Charles the Fifth,
and the show Carolus V is created. Xarxa Teatre
creates and produces a grand multimedia show, Le pêcheur
raphaeloise et la princesse, for the city of Saint Raphaël
(France) to welcome in the year 2000. The show is based on popular
legends associated with the city. A review in the local press comments:
"Following the success of this show, street theatre will never
be the same for us." Creation of the show Sedes Matris.
1998
Creation of the shows Magdalena Vítol, Sant
Pere, per sempre ("Saint Peter, Forever") and
Benvinguts a les estrelles ("Welcome to the
Stars").
1997
The local Council of Castellón publishes a book with the
title Xarxa Teatre: tradició, festa i teatralitat
("Xarxa Teatre: Tradition, Festival and Theatre") skillfully
edited by Pasqual Mas, Adolf Piquer and Xavier Vellón.
1996
The International Herald Tribune makes note of
Xarxa Teatre's success in the closing ceremonies
at the International Festival of the Arts in San José (Costa
Rica). The company's Latin American tour includes performances in
Venezuela, Brazil and Aruba, and its European tours continue uninterrupted
to this day.
1995
CD and cassette editions of the soundtrack to Veles e vents
("Sails and Winds"). The Venezuelan press unanimously
declares El foc del mar ("Fire of the Sea")
a resounding success and the best show included in the International
Theatre Festival of Caracas. Xarxa Teatre's performances
are attended by enormous audiences, over 1,000,000 spectators this
year alone. The company performs in most of the European countries.
1994
Premiere performance of Veles e vents ("Sails
and Winds"), co-produced by the Escéne National de Calais
for the Channel Tunnel opening ceremonies.
1993
First performance in Latin America. Nit màgica
("Magic Night") is performed at the World Festival of
Nations promoted by UNESCO in Chile. Resounding success of El
foc del mar ("Fire of the Sea") at the Stockholm
Water Festival.
1992
The company becomes firmly established on an international plain,
with performances in eight European countries. Of special note is
the company's performance at the Albertville Olympic Games. Publication
of the book Les arrels del teatre valencià actual
("The Roots of Contemporary Valencian Theatre") featuring
papers from the Symposium on Theatre organised by Xarxa
Teatre.
1991
Creation and production of "Ice Project: an Anti-War
Carnival" against the war in the Persian Gulf. Foundation
of the workshop company Volantins. Commentaries
in Le Monde praise the work of Xarxa Teatre.
1990
Premiere performance of Ibers ("Iberians")
and El foc del mar ("Fire of the Sea"),
the latter co-produced internationally in collaboration with the
Festival des Arts de la Rue de Morlaix (France). The company becomes
well established internationally. Recorded edition of the soundtrack
to Ibers.
1989
Premiere performance of El·lisistrata ("Lysistrata"),
a stage production directed by Edison Valls. Nit màgica
("Magic Night") and El dolçainer de Tales
("The Piper of Tales") receive great acclaim at the RITEJ
(International Symposium on Theatre and Young Audiences) in Lyon
and at the Street Theatre Festival of Paris held to commemorate
the bicentennial anniversary of the French Revolution.
1988
El dolçainer de Tales ("The Piper of
Tales") and Nit màgica ("Magic
Night") are featured on the programs of many well-known Spanish
summer festivals. The FITEI (International Iberian Theatre Festival)
in Oporto (Portugal) schedules the company's first international
performance, deemed a resounding success by critics and audiences
alike. Creation of the Villarreal Street Theatre Festival, to be
directed by Xarxa for the first six years.
1987
Premiere performance of El dolçainer de Tales
("The Piper of Tales"), a street theatre production for
general audiences. The company's performances begin to attract huge
adult audiences.
1986
Premiere performance of Nit màgica ("Magic
Night"), a show destined to change notably as the company gains
experience. Xarxa Teatre offers a total of 125
performances of its three shows to date. El dolçainer
de Tales ("The Piper of Tales") is published
in book format and a recorded version of its soundtrack is available
to the public.
1985
Production of La Barba del rei Barbut ("The
Bearded King's Beard"), a new children's theatre show.
1983 / 1984
Xarxa Teatre founded in March. Premiere performance
of La Bruixa Marruixa ("Marruixa the Witch"),
a children's theatre production based on popular fairy tales. During
these two years ninety-six performances are given of what came to
be a true blockbuster of the time.
